I have been pre-occupied with a little foster dog who has been with me for a month. My hexi work box is just in arms reach so always close at hand.Dudley's tumor is beginning to have an effect on his daily walks so we have cut them back. It was a real step for me to start the QAYG hexagons a few years ago and I still have only 70 made! After searching for hexagons on the internet I discovered many blogs and spent hours reading them. One in particular The Great Hexagon Quilt-Along. This encouraged me to try out paper pieced hexies and Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-87138856015204965122010-12-19T15:36:00.002+11:002010-12-19T15:38:50.821+11:00My QAYG HexagonsMy QAYG HexagonsOriginally uploaded by Nellc1Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-40289581225836643522010-12-19T15:34:00.001+11:002010-12-19T15:34:28.596+11:00QAYG HexagonsQAYG HexagonsOriginally uploaded by Nellc1These are some of my hexagons.Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-47560089913491429612010-11-30T20:17:00.004+11:002010-12-02T18:25:47.070+11:00HexagonsWow, another year has flown by. I have knitted a few baby blankets with another in progress. I am also crocheting a knee rug in the Dr Who theme using the leftover yarn. It is getting a little warm to continue with that one now.The other day I came across a few blogs about hexagons and English paper piecing. I hate hand sewing but some years ago started quilt-as-you-go (QAYG) hexagons with Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-34453948618245113282009-11-15T11:06:00.002+11:002009-11-15T12:42:14.056+11:00I'm stll hereI can't believe it has been so long since I've been on here. I had trouble logging in as I couldn't remember which email or password I used. This was a free pattern I found on Ravelry. The pattern is in multiple language downloads. http://melusinetricote.canalblog.com/archives/2008/03/18/index.htmlI made mine in a burgandy coloured yarn from Cleckeaton Country 12ply. The photo shows the scarf looking more red than it is. I might get another photo another day.Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-65363505641133819152009-03-15T12:43:00.009+11:002009-03-15T13:39:08.325+11:00Finished Dr Who ScarfI finished the scarf a couple of days ago then spent forever sewing in all the loose ends from the colour changes. The tassells were completed this morning and hey presto, it's done!I did less stitches so it wasn't too wide for me, 10 inches, and used a smaller needle (3.75mm) to make the length shorter. At 4'11" I did not need a 12ft scarf! The final length was 9ft. The only problem I have now Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-26536438551131863162009-03-08T18:57:00.003+11:002009-03-12T17:14:37.435+11:00Dr Who ScarfWow, it's growing and up to 81% now. I have too many things on the go at the moment. The last week or so I have been getting into Photo Meme's and have made a posting nearly every day. I started a new blog for this so that I can keep it seperate from my craft posts. Of course with me being only 5 foot I will not make it to the original length but probably to 10ft. Here are my colour choices.Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-44182913502103793532009-02-04T20:08:00.003+11:002009-02-09T15:38:18.320+11:00GAAA - Square 4I've started the next square, this time I did not go for the next in the book but picked out the Ginette Belanger. After completing the first 5 rows of garter stitch I realised it was not going to stretch to the required 12 inches to I started again with 54 stitches and only increased by 18 when the time came. It was much better although still required stretching to make the 12 inches. While not an easy or hard one it does require some concentration. Another one that you are on a different numbered row with each graph and you do need to keep track of where you are.Today is another hot day in the high 30's (celcius). I have spent some time on the bathroom floor, the only cool spot in the place, the dog is on the laundery floor. I've spent a great part of the afternoons, after getting home from work, on the bathroom floor with the dog, a bottle of iced water and cold cloth by my side. The agent has finally got hold of the owner of the unit with my requests; a TV antenna and air con, both of which the units either side of me have got. The answer Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-78513786648659643002009-01-22T17:02:00.007+11:002009-01-31T16:44:12.417+11:00GAAA - Square 2 finishedWell, I've finished my second square. It started out a little strange where I had to increase 3 into one stitch and do that 4 times in one row. It would have been better to Inc 1 (twice) at regular places along the row. The first couple of rows of the pattern didn't seem to work for me but I prefer to work from the instructions and not the graph. If I had looked at the graph I would have seen Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-31175615154887114792009-01-19T14:51:00.003+11:002009-01-19T14:59:58.978+11:00GAAA - Finished first squareI started knitting this square as soon as the wool arrived on Friday. I picked out one of the easy ones to start with as it's been a while since I've knitted. Things turned out pretty well but I will have to block it to the correct size, the cast on/off rows are a bit short/tight but across the middle is fine. Length wise should be ok when blocked. The pattern was a little strange whereas the Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-78688323700201747472009-01-16T15:23:00.006+11:002009-01-16T20:21:41.320+11:00It's arrivedMy wool has finally arrived and I can now start my Aran Afghan!I phoned them yesterday just to see why it was taking so long, after all it has been 10 days since they processed the order. They said that it was out of stock and my order had been shipped the day before. So I guess that two days from Melbourne to here is pretty good going.Yesterday was over 40C, what a hot day. I ended up emailing Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-20664203417115757242009-01-12T11:38:00.005+11:002009-01-12T12:03:08.595+11:00Still WaitingI'm still waiting for my wool to arrive so I can start my GAAA. It was ordered late last year but the Benidgo Woollen Mills were on holidays until 5 January. I ordered 11x200g balls in Magnolia Cream, the pattern calls for 1x100g ball for each of the 20 squares in the main afghan and for the boarder. I joined the GAAA discussion group on Ravelry, an interactive web site for knitters and Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-30371294323331004862009-01-05T19:55:00.003+11:002009-01-05T21:10:24.990+11:00Hot Hot dayOMG it was sooo hot today. I didn't get to see the weather on the news because it was just too hot in the loungeroom but it was around 35C. This unit has NO aircon, ceiling fans or anything. The two bedrooms - the main and the computeroom - get the full afternoon sun and are like a sauna. Acually the whold place is like a sauna. The Great American Aran Afghan. Many years ago I'd made myself an aran jumper and loved the style. I couldn't go passed this book. I also got one for mum - The Great North American Afghan. Why do they insist on a baked dinner in the middle of summer? I would happily settle for a ham salad or prawns but they must keep the English tradition. Luckily the day wasn't too hot, just comforatble in the mid 20'sC.My sister picked me up and we went to the parents about 10.30am and Nellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07957681129993058489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7324694956976524433.post-44718680579481237072008-12-21T17:23:00.004+11:002009-01-03T12:47:45.979+11:00I'm HereFor some time now I have been looking at various blogs. I've just been clicking on the "Next Blog" link on the top bar. I've often thought it would be nice to have my own blog but what will I put into it?I'm very lax when it comes to writing, answering letters, even keeping a diary, so it's quite likely that I wont be writing much here at all.
